The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday “conditionally” suspended its strike, towards ending the strike that started since March 2020.
The ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made this announcement during a briefing in Abuja, earlier today, Wednesday the 23th of December 2020, explaining that the development followed with its National Executive Council (NEC).
While warning that the union, would return to strike without notice if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached
Following this, Professor Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate
Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] did not give any date that Universities, under it should resume, having students return to class.
This is because of the Covid-19 lockdown protocol in place
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) explained saying, the senate of each schools is responsible for determining when their schools will resume.
In addition, the union said, the government is responsible for putting in place the requirements and needed measures for the universities save resumption. And to give the directory to the schools senate to inform their students on when to resume
